What about people experiencing homelessness, who are constantly exposed to outdoor temperatures and their fluctuations. Without access to cooled spaces, nowhere to take shelter, and with limited access to drinking water, their mortality risk during heatwaves is up to three times higher than that of the general population.
Let’s also consider the workers who bear the full brunt of heatwaves and undignified working conditions. But who could have predicted this? Let’s not be surprised, because these situations are the result of political decisions.
Nevertheless, protecting the most vulnerable is possible : stop cutting emergency shelter beds, take action to provide decent housing, fund outreach programs, combat poorly insulated buildings, and keep public parks and gardens open all night…
Remember to stay hydrated and look out for one another.
