Function has been shaping techno for thirty years, from New York to Berlin, from the Limelight to Berghain, where he is a resident. In March 2025, his return with Sandwell District, the album End Beginnings, was hailed among the records of the year. Tommy Four Seven, meanwhile, has just closed ten years of his label 47 to open 2 0, a project where he composes four-handed with JakoJako, Rrose, Marcel Dettmann or Oscar Mulero. Two artists who wrote the history of techno, and who keep writing it. On August 8th, they bring it to life at Karmen Camina: 3h30 for one, 3 hours for the other.

FUNCTION

3h30 set · Berghain resident

📍 Berlin / New York@function.infrastructureFunction

A true underground techno legend, Function (Dave Sumner) has been DJing and producing for over 30 years between New York and Berlin, where he holds a residency at Berghain. Founding member of the cult Sandwell District collective, artist on Ostgut Ton and Tresor, and founder of Infrastructure New York, he has shaped and deeply influenced the history of techno worldwide.

More about Function

It all starts at the Limelight, New York, in the early 90s: discovering Jeff Mills' residency, Dave Sumner falls into techno for good. First 12"s on Synewave, a decisive encounter with Regis in 1996, then the move to Berlin, where Sandwell District becomes a cult: a collective erasing the artist's ego in favour of the sound, dissolved in 2013 at its peak. The solo albums Incubation (Ostgut Ton, 2013) and Existenz (Tresor, 2019) follow.

In March 2025, the story reopens: End Beginnings, the first Sandwell District album in fifteen years, made with Regis as a tribute to Silent Servant, their friend and member who passed away in 2024, whose unfinished work gives the record its title and cover. The press hailed it among the albums of the year. And in May 2026, he signed the Devocion EP with Nastia Reigel on Dekmantel, between early trance and modern techno. This is an artist in full comeback mode, not a legend on a farewell lap, settling into the gallery room for 3h30.

More about Tommy Four Seven

Revealed on CLR, Chris Liebing's label, with the album Primate (2011), he made Berlin his home base and 47 far more than a catalogue: a party series born at Arena Club in 2014, which grew over ten years into one of experimental techno's sharpest platforms, with a visual identity designed by Silent Servant. In October 2025 he chose to end on a high: the Ten Years compilation closed the catalogue at its 47th release, ten years after it began.

What comes next changes the rules: no more solitary signatures, only shared creations. Stratum I (February 2026) has him composing with JakoJako and Rrose, Stratum II (June 2026) with Marcel Dettmann and Oscar Mulero. Two months after that release, this brand-new chapter is what he brings to play, over 3 hours.

TEINTURE-MÈRE

📍 Strasbourg@teinture_mereteinture-mère

From a selection of rare essence, she will weave an Ariadne's thread where surprise dances with emotion, spinning a vibrant web between dissonances and melodies of yesterday. She will draw you into the depths of the soul and guide you, a living torch, like a little witch of light.

More about teinture-mère

Behind this new artist name stands a familiar figure of Karmen's dancefloors: she lit up the gallery room alongside Wata Igarashi in June, and the Minimaxxx night in spring. New identity, same selection of rare essence: on August 8th, she opens the club room on home ground.

And the witch of light doesn't only watch over dancefloors: with the Gertrude et Terrecuite collective, she campaigns for urban wildlife's access to water in Strasbourg, safe drinking spots included, petition to the Eurométropole and all. Caring for the living, on the floor and in the street.

More about Marie Tonic

“Impossible to go out at night in Nancy without hearing Marie Tonic mix,” wrote the French outlet Première Pluie in 2024. From italo-disco to trance, she multiplied the sets in her city before being booked as far as Paris, from Ostra Club to L'Autre Canal. With MIXIT, the association she co-founded, she also produces her own events: an artist who builds her scene as much as she travels through it.
